About Basanta Kumari Samanta
Basanta Kumari Samanta is celebrated as Odisha’s first lady artist and a trailblazer in the Indian art scene. Born in Khallikote, Odisha, she mastered diverse artistic forms, including oil painting, watercolor, acrylic, textile design, and batik, after earning her fine arts diploma from the Government School of Art and Crafts.
A distinguished artist and writer, Basanta has used her art and poetry to depict Odisha’s vibrant culture and social realities. Her works have been featured in leading publications, radio, and television, and she has authored the book "BIDIPTA BASANTA", showcasing her literary prowess.
Her artistic journey began in 1967 as an art educator, where she inspired generations of students with her creative vision. She retired in 2001 after an illustrious career at the District Institute of Education and Training.
