At the First Annual Festival & Literary Ceremony of the Govt. College of Art & Crafts, Khallikote's Alumni Association in 2023, Basanta Kumari Samanta — the college's first girl student, decades earlier — was conferred the Praktani Kala Samman, a lifetime achievement honour recognizing her sustained dedication to the arts since her own student years there.
