In 2004, Basanta Kumari Samanta received a Swetasanketa Samman in connection with the Chief Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, presented through the Swetasanketa Saraswata Mancha's 12th Rajyastariya Saraswata Samaroha on 20 July 2004 at Bikalpa Sanjibani Kaksha, Acharya Harihar Chhak, Puri — the first of what would become a running relationship with the Mancha across the following year's ceremony and its Shreshtha Chitrashilpi Samman.
